Can you recover damaged DB files?

Like any other file in a computer system, DB files are not exempt from failures and damages. They can fail due to many reasons of different nature.

The first thing to consider is not to panic. Several specialized studies indicate that there is a high probability of recovering the data contained therein, so that you must remain calm when damage to your DB file occurs.

First you should know some of the causes of the damage to the DB files. Your DB database file, either thumbnail images in Windows or iTunes or any other, is corrupted due to:

  • Virus infection: viruses can cause damage to files either intentionally or unintentionally. When spreading viruses may infect many different files on the computer and damage all or some of them.
  • Power failure: Sudden loss of power when the user is synchronizing files from the device containing the DB database leading to data corruption. It can also happen when data is being written to DB file and power is suddenly lost.
  • Application Failure: An error during the update of the application that uses the DB file, either because you turned off the system abruptly or an application bug.

Whatever the cause, the task of recovering a DB file depends, almost always, on third-party programs.

Listed below are the steps, in a general way, to recover damaged or lost DB files. These steps should work with almost any third-party software, of course, with certain differences specific to each vendor:

  • Download and install the third-party application on the system by logging in as local system administrator.
  • At the end of the installation process you can see the shortcut icon of the software on the desktop.
  • Start the tool and follow the instructions that are present on the main screen (if any), if thereĀ“s not any instruction on the main screen, go to the help tab and look for the information you need.
  • Deleted file, Recovery, Corrupted file rebuilding and/or Lost file Recovery may be the options that you can find in the software. Select the option you need in your case.
  • Look for the option to set the drive in the system where DB file is located.
  • Now, after clicking on the next button, on the next screen there is a list of file types that can be recovered. After the completion of the scanning process, the list of recovered files is present in Data View and File Type View.
  • Toggle between the required view and preview the files before saving them to the respective destination location.
